U.S. Commemoratives

Classic Series

Struck in silver from 1892 through 1954, these include a single quarter, a single dollar, and 48 half-dollars. These commemoratives form what is called the 50 piece type set (or 144 piece complete date and variety set).
Modern Series

Modern issues begin with the re-emergence of silver commemoratives in 1982. The series includes clad and silver halves, silver dollars and a single bi-metallic issue (shown). Note: Modern gold issues are listed with "Gold Commems" below.
Gold Commemoratives

Classic gold commems begin with the 1848 $2.50 CAL. Issue and ends with the American independence 150th anniversary $2.50 issue of 1926. Modern gold commems begin with the 1984 Olympics $10 gold pieces and continue to current issues.
Circulating Commemoratives

Circulating commemoratives actually began with the 1909 Lincoln cent commemorating the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth, the 1932 Washington quarter commemorating the bicentennial of George Washington's birth, the 1938 Jefferson nickel in the bicentennial year of his birth, and continued with the 1776-1976 bicentennial issues and now include the Washington state-quarters and Jefferson nickels of 2004 and 2005.
